Free Blogger Template: Photography Blog Theme

January 19, 2012

Happy Thursday! My goal is to release one free download/graphic/whatever a week. I haven't done too bad so far but we'll see how this goes. Anyway, after two 'personal' blog templates I decided to design a photoblog template for all of you photographers out there.

This template is customized using Blogger's built in Template Designer with minimal HTML/CSS modifications. This means you can easily edit most elements of the design using the Template Designer without having to know a lot of HTML/CSS to do the job. However, to get a certain look some manual HTML/CSS modifications are necessary so just keep that in mind.

Other Theme Features

  • JQuery Header Slideshow - Instructions on how to edit this feature is included in the download file
  • Widget-Based Footer
  • Custom Google Web Fonts used for the menu links, page titles, and post titles
  • Fully editable Photoshop File & Flat Graphic of the "logo" included in the download file
  • Allows photos up to 960px wide in the header slideshow & posts
  • Please Note: Images in slideshow must be cropped to 960px wide, 400px tall.

  1. Thank you so much for this free template! I love it! I'm just have a wee bit of trouble. :D I'm trying to do the slider, followed the directions. When I click "edit" slider, nothing is in the box. So, I just copied and pasted the thing you told us to copy if adding more pictures. It didn't work, and also the pictures look bigger than the actual size they are supposed to be... here it is,

  2. Sarah,

Thank you.. I'm glad you like it! Please re-download the file and re-upload it to your blog. There are also updated instructions - thank you for pointing that out - I missed a step in the first one :)

Also, the photos for the slideshow must be cropped to 960x400 pixels wide to fit.

  7. Gerry... Are you uploading the .xml file or are you trying to copy and paste the code itself?

I'm not sure what that error is but I've tested it out and it works fine. Email me at thesinglemomoirs@gmail.com and I can help you out :) Thanks!

    1. That's because you have to optimize your photos for web use. If you have Photoshop, choose "Save for Web & Devices" and choose a lower resolution. Voila! Problem solved.

  15. Thank you so much for the template! I'm hoping you can offer me some advice on a couple of problems I'm having:

    1. Images in header - I'm sizing 960 x 400px saving for web and devices at high but my images are still blurry, not crisp like your sample images. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

    2. Layout - I'd like to maximize the full space for the image posts, but when I'm on the back end posting, I don't get the full width, so I am having trouble placing images like you do in your sample...ie larger photo to left and then smaller photos to right.

I hope this make sense. I so appreciate the template and any advice you may have!

  16. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful design! Is there a way to only have the slider on the front page and not on every page? Is there a html code that will keep the slider only on the front page? You are super talented!

    1. Hey Audrey, thank you! I'm not really sure if there is or not because I haven't looked into it but with it being Blogger I highly doubt they allow that sort of advanced customization. I'll come back here & post an update below this comment if I find out there is :)

  19. Hey! I love this design and I'm excited to use it. However, I'm having some trouble uploading the template. When I open the file you sent, it doesn't look complete. And blogger says things are missing. I'm probably doing something wrong but can't figure it out. Any help you can give is appreciated :)

    1. The instructions included are a little out of date since Blogger changed some things around since then. I apologize, I hadn't really even thought about it being different. Please read below for the new instructions:

You'll need to go into the dashboard for your blog, go to Template and then click the button at the top right hand corner that says Backup/Restore. Then choose the XML template file included in the template folder and upload. Make sure you're actually UPLOADING the XML file and not trying to copy & paste the code from the file into Blogger's custom HTML area directly. Let me know if you have any more questions :)

    I have a question

How can I get the "about me" to be a seperate page from the rest of the blog?

Thank you so much for your time :)

    1. Thank you, I'm glad you like it! :)

I'm not really sure what you mean by it being a separate page. If you're asking how to create pages, go to your blog's dashboard and click on PAGES on the left hand side. Then click the button "Add New" and choose Blank Page. Then you'll be able to create an 'about me' page.

  43. I love love love this template. It was pretty easy to install (after reading the new directions in these comments) and it is just what i was looking for. One question-is there a way to disable the "right click, save as" feature in the slideshow? I watermark my images but I'd love to take any anti-theft precautions I can.

Thank you so much for an amazing template!
