Birthday Cake Popcorn Recipe

June 22, 2011

I was browsing some baking blogs for some new, fun recipes to try to make (and Pin) and came across the Budding Baketress blog. This girl has tons of amazing recipes and they're all fairly simple without requiring ingredients you have to get from a specialty store like a lot of them do.

Aiden is currently obsessed with popcorn and would probably eat two full bags of it if I let him. When I saw her recipe for Birthday Cake Popcorn I knew he would love it (me too, of course). The only thing I didn't have readily available was white chocolate but a quick trip to the grocery store solved that problem in a hurry. This popcorn was SO GOOD! Don't judge me for my pictures - I'm not a photographer and I'm definitely not a food photographer. They were taken on my iPhone so as you can tell I'm not even trying to be one.
And now, the recipe...

Birthday Cake Popcorn

What You Need

  • 1 bag of popcorn

  • 1 bag of white chocolate chips

  • 4 heaping tsp yellow cake mix

  • Sprinkles

What You Do
Pop popcorn and spread it out on a paper towel. Remove kernels and any burnt pieces and place in a large bowl.

Melt white chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second intervals. Stir in between until completely melted - be careful not to burn the chocolate. Stir in cake mix and 3 tsp sprinkles. Immediately pour mixture over popcorn and stir until completely coated.

Pour into wax paper and spread into a single layer. Sprinkle until you get the look you want then let it cool and harden. Break into pieces and eat immediately! Seriously, you aren't going to want to wait any longer.
